Vegetables and Breast Cancer

If a study from the National Register of Cancer in Uruguay is correct, there is much that a woman can do to lower breast-cancer risk. Dietary intakes were compared in 400 breast-cancer patients and 405 healthy controls. Results showed that the more vegetables, fruit, fiber, vitamin C, vitamin E, lycopene (a carotenoid found in tomatoes), folic acid, and phytosterols (typically consumed in legumes) a woman ate, the lower was her risk for developing breast cancer.

Remember to Take Vitamin E

Researchers at Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich, Germany might have identified how vitamin E protects the brain against Alzheimer's disease. Using mouse brain cells, the researchers found that both synthetic and natural vitamin E showed antioxidant effects in protecting brain cells from oxidative damage caused by the amyloid beta protein, hydrogen peroxide, and other compounds that accumulate in the brains of Alzheimers patients. Vitamin E also induced nerve cell survival mechanisms, thus exhibiting a neuroprotective effect.
