"C" is for
Cataract
Vitamin C might help protect
a person from developing cataracts, according
to a review of the data from the Second National
Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANESII).
Blood levels of vitamin C and history of cataracts
were compared in more than 4,000 seniors between
the ages of 60 and 74 years. Results showed that
blood vitamin C status was inversely associated
with cataract risk. That is, for each 1mg/dl increase
in vitamin C, there was a 26% reduction in cataract
risk.
