Remember to Take Vitamin
E
Researchers at Max Planck Institute
of Psychiatry in Munich, Germany might have identified
how vitamin E protects the brain against Alzheimer's
disease. Using mouse brain cells, the researchers
found that both synthetic and natural vitamin
E showed antioxidant effects in protecting brain
cells from oxidative damage caused by the amyloid
beta protein, hydrogen peroxide, and other compounds
that accumulate in the brains of Alzheimers patients.
Vitamin E also induced nerve cell survival mechanisms,
thus exhibiting a neuroprotective effect.
